The SAE International, the Society of Automobile Engineers was started in 1905, in America. With in a short span, it attracted professionals from Aeronautics, Power-boating engineers etc. Hence in the historical meeting held in 1916, the need to change the name of the society had been felt and ‘The Society of Automobile Engineers’ became ‘The Society of Automotive Engineers’ indicating the representatives from all types of mobility-related professions. The society operates throughout the world in the name of ‘SAE International’. But in our country, we are privileged to have the Society in the name of ‘SAEINDIA’. India is one of the very few countries that enjoy such privilege.

Some time back, students from First and Second years came up with an Idea to start a club/activity relevant to our subject (Mechanical Engineering) to make learning interesting for ourselves. After considering the various possible options (like the Robotics Club, Automobile Engineers club etc), we were determined to start something unique and with a perfect vision. And finally, the starting of SAEINDIA JBIET Collegiate Club has been chosen. This Club will have an affiliation/recognition with SAEINDIA, a professional non-profit organization that can help us through its various means like its Resources, its contacts with the Professionals in the Industry etc. The proposal was immediately taken to our faculty members and received appreciation and encouragement. Soon after taking the approval from our Head of the Department, the foundation for starting the club was commenced.

About Us

After the announcement, 170 people got their names enrolled as the members of the Society giving a very grand Beginning for the Club. All the Club enthusiasts joined together to make it a grand success. A team of Office Bearers has been formed with the approval from the members as per the guidelines given by SAEINDIA. We have categorized ourselves into different Chairs (like Publicity Chair, Program Chair etc), electing a leader for each Chair. The work has been distributed. We have started a blog to keep the members updated with the Club activities and at the same time to receive suggestions from them. A draft of ‘Club Calendar’ for the Clubs Activities has been formed.

Being a part of SAEINDIA Society as a Collegiate Club gave us a chance to participate for the BAJA SAE ASIA 2010 competition that will be held in the last week of January 2010, a dream for most automobile-freaks to be a part of. Our club is very enthusiastic about this event. A written test and an interview are being arranged to select a team that will be representing us at this International Event.

Apart from that, the club is planning to give active participation in the Annual Convention of SAEINDIA South Section which is celebrated very grandly every year. And as a part of the qualifying criteria, participants from the club will be giving tough competition in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 events. The major competitions that we are presently focusing at are aero modeling, PRO-E Design Contest, Paper Presentations and Auto Quiz.

We are also planning to arrange Factory visits for the students during the summer vacation, both local as well as out station visits to give practical exposure towards the Live-Industrial scenario of Automobile Industry. Arranging Guest Speakers on various recent Innovative and Technological trends is also under consideration.
